This half term, Year 6 will be learning to program in Python. Python is a programming language that can be used to create computer programs, such as games.

Unlike Scratch, which pupils used in Year 5, Python code is constructed from algorithms made from lines of text, rather than dragging together blocks to form code.

Here is an example of a section of code from Scratch with the equivalent code written in Python.

To learn to program in Python, we must learn the language of Python, called its syntax. We started last week by using the four numerical operations to complete some calculations:

We also introduced the print command which can be used to display text or numbers within our programme.

Python is free to download here: Please select Python 2.7.6 for either Windows or Mac.

And here are some excellent websites with ideas and resources for Python projects
